The review describes a number of studies that have shown that the nutrient composition of dairy supports the maintenance of bone and muscle mass in the elderly and can help to counter a number of ailments that commonly affect quality of life in this population. Contemporary research into the role of dairy in cognitive function in the elderly is also briefly presented. Nutritionists agree that dairy products can add considerable value to the quality of the elderly’s diet and so help to ensure sustained strength and optimal health with advancing age.
